Technical data :

• Octagonal shaped trap composed of 4 catch compartments and a central compartment for the caller.

• Each catching compartment is equipped with a pendulum. When the magpie enters the cage and presses the pendulum, the door closes.

 How to use it :

The magpie trap is used in many departments where this species of corvids is considered a pest. When they are in pairs in the spring, they do not tolerate the presence of other individuals of their species on their territory. This is why you will easily achieve your catches with a magpie trap. Where they are very numerous, talkative magpies have a negative impact on passerine populations. Several studies have shown that in rural areas, the growth of magpie populations contributes to the decline of birds that nest on the ground or whose eggs are easily attacked. The magpie shows remarkable dexterity even in dense thorny areas where it causes havoc in the nests of passerines (warblers, chickadees, goldfinches, black-tailed reds, bullfinches, shrikes...). 

 Laying techniques :

If you have observed magpies but have not found the nest they are going to choose, you can place your magpie cage along a hedge, in an orchard, the places most frequented by these birds.

You can also place the magpie trap in very accessible places such as in the field or under a tree.

Do not hesitate to move your cage often to their hunting territory.

For the caller, the magpie fears the sun and is sensitive to rain ... It must be taken care of and it is essential to put a plate above part of its compartment provided in the magpie trap.

The magpie is wary, make sure that your trigger is well positioned so that the door falls quickly.
