Why an X-trap?

Depending on its size, the X-trap can be used to trap mustelids, foxes or coypu. With the size of this double spring trap above, you can trap muskrats, but especially weasels. It is regularly used as a weasel trap. For larger animals (coypu, foxes...), you should opt for larger sizes: 16x16, 18x18 or 25x25. This X-shaped trap is discreet and can be hidden anywhere.

How to trap a weasel?

Many trappers use this weasel trap. To attract a weasel, you build a wooden box in which you place the X-trap in the bottom of the crate, and you place a bait inside. The weasel is curious and will enter the box and be caught by the trap. It is also known that weasels like to live around houses, and some trappers go so far as to set a weasel trap on the gutters to catch these animals going up and down. 

There are other techniques for setting the X-trap. For example, you can place it between two bales of hay if you see weasels coming and going regularly. Finally, another technique is to create a fake beehive with a hole in the bottom; the weasel will come to huddle in it, to see if there is anything to eat or simply out of curiosity and will eventually get caught in the trap. Advice for use : 

Remember that the 13cm by 13cm X-trap is perfectly suited for trapping weasels. But it can also be used to trap other pests. For muskrat trapping, the use of bait is not necessary, simply place your trap at the exit of a burrow. Remember to place your trap in marshes and within 200 metres of streams, ponds and marshes.
